1. Police Officer Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment and have no state or federal convictions for a crime punishable by imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or state prison; must have successfully completed an accredited California POST academy by the date of hire (likely to be after January 1st, 2012) or are currently working for a California law enforcement agency as a sworn peace officer; possess a combination of education equivalent to graduation from High School; possess a valid California Class C driver’s license; have a good driving record and perform at minimal physical standards which include mobility, physical strength and stamina to respond to emergency situations and apprehend suspects, lift, push or pull individuals or objects weighting up to 100 pounds.

2. Swat team MemberAlmost all SWAT team members begin their careers as police officers or sheriffs' deputies. In most agencies, this requires a high school diploma or GED. Because competition for entry-level positions is fierce, many candidates pursue associate’s or bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and related fields in order to increase their job prospects.
New recruits complete 15–30 weeks of academy training covering law, tactics, police procedure, firearms, emergency driving, report writing and leadership. Instruction covers both classroom and practical learning and includes simulations of common field situations. Physical conditioning is a key component of the program, and recruits must generally meet rigorous fitness standards in order to graduate.
Police officers who are chosen for SWAT duty return to the academy for training in close-quarters defensive tactics and special weapons use. During this time, they are subjected to highly demanding physical conditioning. Depending on the unit’s mission, SWAT recruits may take additional courses in counter-sniper tactics, helicopter and armored vehicle insertion, explosives, rope skills and crowd control.


3. FBI Agent The job of an FBI Special Agent is exacting, demanding, and challenging, yet also highly rewarding. Because of the specialized nature of FBI Special Agent jobs, the FBI has very strict entry requirements in place. To qualify for a position as an FBI Special Agent:
  • Candidates must be at least 23 years old, but younger than 37 at the time of appointment. Veterans, however, may be granted an age waiver if they are older than 37.
  • Candidates must be a United States citizen or a citizen of the Northern Mariana Islands.
  • Candidates must hold a four-year degree from a college or university accredited by one of the institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of Education.
  • Candidates must possess a valid, U.S. driver’s license.
  • Candidates must have completed at least three years of professional work experience.
All FBI Special Agents must qualify for at least one of the five FBI Special Agent Entry Programs to be eligible for employment:
  • Language
  • Law
  • Accounting
  • Computer Science/Information Technology
  • Diversified
Upon qualifying for one of the above Entry Programs, candidates are further prioritized based upon Critical Skills they possess, which may change according to the positions for which the FBI is recruiting. Critical Skills may include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Foreign Language Proficiency
  • Finance
  • Engineering
  • Accounting
  • Intelligence Experience
  • Law Enforcement/Investigative Experience
  • Physical Sciences Expertise
  • Military Expertise
  • Law Experience
  • Diversified Experience
